I won! I won! I won something!

I’m excited – can you tell?

A while back over on Beauty That Moves I was lucky enough to be a Friday giveaway winner. This stuff is what I won….

So cute. Thankyou, Heather! Everything has found a home and that doily? Totally my favourite.

It started off as a simple idea which I have been planning all winter and finding just the right fabric for bit by bit.

The idea? Well, quite simply a type of quilt blanket throw thing (non commital? Mmm, yeah) for our bed in yellow and vintage. Remember the yellow thing I have going on there? I needed to tie all the yellows and undertones together somehow.

As well as thinking ‘patchwork’ and ‘yellow’ and ‘vintage’, I was also thinking ‘summer’. We have a duvet masha’allah and we have a quilt for the winter – we even have wool blankets too. But then comes summer – too hot for the quilts and duvet, too cold for nothing at all, so this piece was designed as the solution – cool enough for a summer evening, pretty enough as a throw and vintage enough to make me sigh.

I used a combination of material – cotton, linen, flannel, satin as well as using a mixture between modern and thrifted vintage fabrics, and backed it with a lovely old yellow striped flannel sheet. No batting, but quilted as though there were batting (make sense?)

The result? Well, something pretty masha’allah. And yellow. And vintage-y. I think it works. Whether it survives early morning dive-bombing by two hungry children remains to be seen…

This weekend had all the ingredients for a completely lovely, uplifting, reviving and rejuvenating time. It’s been a loooong time since I have felt such contentment masha’allah.

Some crafting, of course, in the form of a quilt-top for our bed.

Plenty of posies – a stream of flowers and things generally ripped off stalks made it’s way into our home.

Oh how I *love* the aroma of daffodils. I could bury my head in those petals and inhale like a crack addict. Hm…lovely poetic imagery there I’m sure you’d all agree…

Sun. Hot hot sun. Blue skies. The sounds of nesting all around. All weekend. Masha’allah!

Ergo outdoor play. All weekend! Masha’allah.

Time to sit and knit… ahhhh…..

The barakah of guests, family and good company masha’allah.

Some thrifting thrown in for good measure (a treat in itself, let me tell you :: a bit of time to stroll around a local thrift haven is a little bit of heaven) – and seriously scoring! Yes! Oh I can’t tell you how happy this makes me. Some pretty, lovely things (and yes more yarn in some seriously yummy colours) to adorn our home masha’allah.

Another tin – pehaps for buttons? Who knows – currently on my craft shelves awaiting a use …

And some chocolate thrown in for good measure. Good times, people. Good times.

I need to remember that times like these are so very joy-full and make me so grate-full, I am literally full in the heart and glowing with tiredness and contentment. Alhamdulillah. Some days are like this. Life can be so very good.

Is there any woman on the planet who doesn’t get a high off retail therapy? Tell the truth.

Admit it. We all have our little ways of getting through the day. For some it’s food; for some it’s creating; and sometimes for some it is acquiring something new and pretty.

I’m not too proud to admit it. Buying things makes me happy.

There. Said it.

But you know what? Spending MONEY doesn’t thrill me at all. No. It’s thrifting my latest babies that gives me a buzz. I feel like I’m *saving* money, like I’m making a home and still not being wasteful. It’s a perfect hit:: retail therapy without the guilt!

And really for silly prices like a few pennies it’s almost a crime NOT to buy. Right? Add to that my latest craze of only buying upcycled yarn and well, I’m one happy bunny. I even have no fear of Ravelry now.

I swear he sat like that til I took his photo.

Have a good weekend people!

Some wonderful weekend thrifty finds. The theme seemed to be enamel this week…

This funky bowl is Norwegian! And it is so so sassy.

Then stock pots and enamel mugs. What is it about enamel mugs? Brings out the pioneer spirit in me… and in cherry reds? I can live with that…

And add to that a stash of yarn and obligatory linen find and I can safely say my thrifting twitch has been generously soothed. For a few days.

Yes; you heard me. Thursday was thrift day! In fact, I think I will rename Thursday, Thriftday.

Not that I don’t go thrifting on other days too…hm..

This is a lovely old metal globe, small, but has “Made in England” stamped on it. And really, what the hell is made in England these days? Has a lovely old feel to it. It rests it’s head on a lacey tableclothe.

Tableclothe scores were in abundance – four in all, but I couldn’t get a decent shot of any of them…

OK. So, a magazine rack in (black) canvas which I have commandeered for my knitting stash – close it up and take it around the house for knitting on the go!

Some grey wool on a cone at the back there – will do for doll hair.

Lovely blue ceramics and a new cup. I have a thing about cups.

These glasses, oh goodness these pictures are awful, but the glasses are so cute and my children are forbidden to even look at them. I envisage Elderflower cordial aplenty from these…. Mmmm….

This would be my ‘what the hell was I thinking’ find. A cheesy salt-n-pepper thing on a wooden tray. I like it. It sits on a bamboo mat and cheese cutting board which I have wanted since forever ago.

Old old old books. I love vintage books. This is a good old Western novel based on the author’s grandfather’s tales. Should raise a lot of inquiry if nothing else.

Tableclothes, nick-nacks, silly little things that, after a sucky sucky week all round, really put the wind back into my sails.

A few purdy finds are just what the Doctor ordered. And I will try to leave the inevitable ‘oh should I go back and get the other thing…’ for another day. *Twitch*, or maybe I really do need to go pick it up right now….

We’re set for some cold and wintery weather this weekend. I know – wintery weather when really it’s Spring… OK OK … so it’s technically still winter and Mother Nature has pulled rank. Again. Pah. We are trying to enjoy the crazy light here as long as it lasts.

Take care, people. Wrap up warm ans stay safe!

This fixture just about sums me up right now. Waiting to turn one off and the other one on.

Just a few more weeks to go before I can really pretend it’s spring, right?

And because I am really out of ideas for a blog post I’ll leave you with these unrelated pictures…

Thrifted and vintage. And this would be some thrifted, printed corduroy… making me itchy for some clothes-making going on, as well as few more thrifting sessions SOON, further afield.

And this would be me day-dreaming of making picnic blankets, beach blankets, napkins and other picnicing essentials… ready for a season of road trips and beach play.

Because evidently what a person with no car and no sewing machine needs is a BIGGER WIP pile than she already has for trips she won’t be able to make.

Makes sense, right?

Carry on.
